As a sufferer of plantar fasciitis, I constantly was dealing with sharp, tender pain from my right foot's heel piercing all the way through my arch. When I would take my first step out of bed each morning it was like someone taking a knife to my heel and twisting it down my sole. My foot felt as if barbed wire were entangled around it with no escape. Just because my pain was so severe, didn’t mean I could just rest, no, bills had to be paid! Rather, through this intense pain I was forced to stand for 8 hours at a time being a full time journalist. Going on my daily after-work walks with my husband was out of the question, I could barely stand to even do the essentials.
To combat the pain I started lightly - I was the google warrior. I looked up exercises that promised quick relief - needless to say that didn’t work. I then took it a step up and ordered gadgets and products online that promised they would cure my pain. Some felt nice for a little, but ultimately didn't help, and my pain continued to intensify. As my pain levels progressed I finally buckled up and went to a Podiatrist. He first offered me pain killers, and cortisone injections were next. This provided temporary relief, but over the next few weeks things still continued to worsen. I was at my threshold, my final resort, the doctor said the last option was surgery.
Before going under the knife, I wanted to fully explore my options, see if there was a better way. Waking up each morning my face shriveled and trembled at the mere thought of getting out of bed.
Going to work at a job I used to genuinely enjoy, now petrified me; I prayed to just get through each hour without quitting to just go home to cry. It felt like I would need a
genuine miracle.
